Dizziness and vertigo (a spinning sensation) and dizziness with and without moving

A major classification of dizziness is the dizziness with or without moving or both

Definition: the patient notices a sensation of abnormal balance with or without moving. Nausea may or may not be present.

Symptoms/possible causes: most dizziness is due to a blocked blood vessel to the inner ear.

Possible course of treatment: after taking a careful history from the patient, a careful ear exam, and possible hearing test, treatment consists of vestibular (moving exercises of the head) exercises and Valium. Valium is really the only successful treatment for dizziness and vertigo. Dizziness usually is gone in 2 - 4 weeks.
